PLYMOUTH REGATTA - 9th June 2018
Saturday the 9th June 2018. Plymouth Regatta kicked off the West of England Amateur Rowing Association's (WEARA's) regatta season in style with stunning sunshine and a phenomenal turnout of people - certainly the busiest we've seen Blagdon's Meadow in a very long time! Thank you to all of our rowers for their fantastic efforts in doing themselves proud and everyone at the club proud too, we praise you for your success yesterday.
In addition, we would like to thank the parents and families of our rowers who came down to help run the bar, kitchen, BBQ, marshall, run the raffle, safety boat and generally support everyone in what they were doing. You all did a fantastic job, and the committee as well as everyone else at the club can only express our gratitude and appreciation for what you did for us.
A massive thank you to all of the clubs is certainly required too with a fantastic turnout from across the region, it was brilliant to see so many familiar faces again now that regatta season has begun and we cannot wait to see you all at the following regattas in the months to come.

NATIONAL'S SUCCESS AT JIRR - 23rd April 2018
On Saturday 21st April, the Western Region competed together as a united team at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. Among the competing members of the Western Region were three Plymouth Crews - our J14 Quad, J15 Single and J16 Double represented Plymouth and the West Region with exceptional results. Elliot Lawrence in his J15 Single as well as Tom Hughes and Jack Lancashire in their J16 Double raced against their competitors with strength, pride and success. The highest achievement for our crews was from the J14 Quad in their first year competing at the national event - Eddie Axworthy, Stanley Butchart, Sam Duggan and Charlie Pitt with their Coxwain, Taylor Wassall placed 5th in the 'A' final. Massive congratulations to all three of our crews as well as the entire Western Region! Many thanks to the voluntary help of the families who drove as well as our Head Coach, Kevin Sellar and Junior Coach, Phoebe Lansley for getting them there and helping them succeed.

GOLD FOR DAWSON - 29th March 2018
At the Head of The River Race, there was further achievement once again for Jacob and his crew on the 4.25 mile race course on the Tideway in London. With over 400 crews participating, there is always strong competition but the Leander crew raced a dead heat against Oxford Brookes! Despite being 0.08 seconds quicker on time, the margin was too small to declare a definite verdict so a dead heat was awarded to the two fastest crews of the course.

SUCCESS AT NJIRC 2018 - 12th MARCH 2018
What a day it was on Friday 9th of March where 39 people representing PARC from across Devon and Cornwall went to race at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships in the Lee Valley Athletics Centre. Not only did we have PB’s throughout the days but 39 students collected 27 medals. Both the Year 7-9 Girls and Boys Relay Races won Gold defending their titles as well as great success from the Year 10-13 Boys who came silver in their Team Relay Boat Race. The major success was continued when the Year 10-13 Girls also got a podium finish by 7 metres winning Gold at the prestigious national event. Individually we also had success with Year 7 champion, Freddy, Year 9 girls Silver, Ellie Dash and Year 9 boys bronze Charlie Groves. An excellent days work showing the commitment and team work from the students and coaches.

A TRIBUTE TO CHRIS MOYSE - 6TH MARCH 2018
Thank you to all who came tonight to be together following a year since Chris sadly passed away. Once again, we are sorry that we had to postpone it, but we agreed that Chris wouldn't want you all endangering your safety by getting to the club in the surprisingly bad weather! Nevertheless, we managed to get together to reflect on the truly remarkable efforts he went to in order to form our unbreakable family. We will continue to thrive as the club aspires to continue his astonishing legacy that he put so much into creating and sustaining. Chris was undeniably one of PARC’s all time greats and he will live on looking over our waters for all the years to come.
Now that we have stabilised and attempted to fill in the massive hole left by the absence of our incredible friend, we are ready to break through as a club and carry on being the fantastic, tenacious and united club that makes us who we are.

PLYMOUTH ARC MARKS A SPECIAL DATE - 1ST MARCH 2018
It's hard to believe that it was a year ago to this day that our dearly missed and highly influential former Chairman, Chris Moyse, suddenly passed away. Safe to say, the past year has been a massive struggle for everyone within the club but thanks to our incredible team spirit and strong leadership, we have managed to support each other and pull through.
We, as a club, believe that in the last year we have continued to achieve and we hope we have made Chris incredibly proud. We will endeavour to continue this success and pledge to continue his legacy for many years to come both within the club and across the region as Chris was also the former WEARA Chairman.
With thanks to Chris' close friends, we now have the Chris Moyse Trophy which we were proud to win in its first year at the club as Champions of the River at our home Regatta. In addition to this, the club also won the Chris Moyse trophy for voluntary work which was awarded to us by the WEARA Committee who very kindly and unexpectedly created this new award presented to us at the annual WEARA Dinner in November. It is with thanks to the support from the invaluable people within our community including all those associated with PARC and WEARA that we have managed to get through this past year and we thank everyone who has, and persists in aiding us.
To mark the year since Chris' sudden passing, we attempted to gather as a club to remember and reflect on everything that he has done for us however due to the adverse weather we had decided to postpone it until the following Tuesday 6th March - we knew that he would understand this and wouldn't want anyone to get injured on their travels.

SUCCESS FOR DAWSON! - 30TH JANUARY 2018
Jacob Dawson has won the Bill Richards Amateur Sports Personality of the Year at the Plymouth Herald's Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony. Here is the statement from Plymouth Herald:
"There has been very little rest for Jacob Dawson in 2017 as he continues to impress on the world rowing stage. In what proved to be an incredible year he was selected to represent Great Britain as part of their senior rowing team and tasted plenty of success in many different competitions. Jacob took part in three World Cup events in Serbia, Poland and Switzerland, winning gold in one and bronze in another. He then competed in the European Championships in the Czech Republic and the World Championships in the USA. But there were more medals to come as Jacob won gold in the men’s pair in Serbia and bronze in the men’s eight in Poland. Travelling the world has become a big part of Jacob’s life, but when he is back home in Plymouth, he makes time to visit his local club, Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club."
Jacob was also one of six nominees for the main award of the evening, The Sports Personality of the Year 2017 up against Ben Proud, Graham Carey, Heather Knight, Henry Slade, and Tom Daley hoping to win the award.
Congratulations Jacob!
